If you’re like most real estate agents, you’re captivated with how to get more Instagram followers. To help you reach this aim, social media research organization TrackMaven recently unveiled a study detailing a number of different aspects of posting to Instagram that encourages the largest increases in engagement from your followers, and also increasing the number of Instagram followers you have. Consider the following results discovered in the study:
1. Mayfair is the most effective filter
The researchers at TrackMaven discovered that while #NoFilter is the most used hashtag on the social network. The Mayfair filter, however, is actually the most successful at encouraging interactions from Instagram followers.

2. More hashtags = more engagement from Instagram followers
Many of us can probably agree that there are few things more annoying than when a “#caption #is #literally #nothing #but #hashtags”, right?
But as the research has indicated, those kinds of posts do much better in terms of engagement than posts that only have only one or two hashtags. “Accounts with less than 1,000 followers where a post with 11 hashtags received an average of 77.66 interactions,” the report says. The message: the more hashtags you use, the better.
But to hedge your bets (and not be annoying to a portion of your potential Instagram followers) continue to be thoughtful in how and where you use hashtags. 4-5 hashtags can normally be pretty.
3. Sundays and Mondays reign supreme
Thursday was found to be the day people post the most on. However, Sunday and Monday are the two days where follower engagement is at its highest. So if you want more likes and more followers, be sure to post things on Sundays and Mondays with a relatively high number of hashtags.
4. There is no optimal time of day to post photos
Contrary to what might seem logical, there’s no particular time a day to post photos for maximum engagement on Instagram. In terms of image-based posts, Instagram pretty much produces the same levels of engagement around the clock. Local audience may have particular quirks, so be observant of trends- but by-and-large you can begin by posting at the times that are most convenient for you!
5. Post videos, however, after-hours
The same research found that for videos, the data is different than for photo posts. Videos posted after work hours, between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m., by far have the highest number of interactions. So be more attentive in these postings.
